Winter Olympics Exploratory Committee Hosts Kick-Off Event

Utah officials are ready to look into the possibility of hosting another Winter Olympics.  A committee formed to explore that bid held its first meeting yesterday in Salt Lake City.  Governor Gary Herbert, state House Speaker Greg Hughes, Senate President Wayne Niederhauser and Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski are all part of the committee.  Early estimates indicate it would cost nearly $2 billion to host the 2026 or 2030 Winter Games, though Utah already has working venues in place for many of the events.

The city must make a decision about a bid by February 1st.
