On Thursday, the New York Times reported that Hernandez suffered from severe chronic traumatic encephalopathy, the degenerative brain disease that has been linked to repeated head truama.

According to the NYT report, Hernandez, 27, had the “the most severe case they had ever seen in someone of Aaron’s age.”

Aaron Hernandez, the former New England Patriots tight end who committed suicide in April while serving a life sentence for murder, was found to have one of the most severe forms of C.T.E.

A lawyer for Hernandez, Jose Baez, in announcing the result at a news conference Thursday, said doctors determined it was “the most severe case they had ever seen in someone of Aaron’s age,” which was 27.
