Cam Newton's MVP Doesn't Make Him Elite

Cam Newton 10-13-17 GETTY

Two years ago, Cam Newton was by far the best player on a football field, helping lead his team to their first Super Bowl appearance since 2004.  With such a elite season, Newton was awarded MVP of the league, and had many critics bite their tongues, some admitting that he finally lived up to the hype. Fast forward two years, and Cam Newton has been a shell of his MVP self.  Sure, injuries have plagued the star quarterback, but Doug Gottlieb thinks Cam is just being who he always has.

Doug explains that winning an MVP doesn't mean you're the best, it just means you were the best that year.  Even last year's MVP, Matt Ryan has come back down to Earth, and is turning in another less-than stellar season.  Winning an award doesn't mean you've eclipsed your peers, it just means you played better than expected.  You can listen to Doug's hole rant below.
